It’s important to think about where your newborn will sleep when they’re born. You’ll both need a secure, easy-to-access sleeping arrangement if you’re going to have them stay in your room after giving birth (whether via C-section or vaginally). Consider the HALO BassiNest Swivel Sleeper.

A review of the Halo Sleepsack Swaddle may ring a bell. All three of my children were born using Halo products, and I couldn’t be happier with them.

Read on to find out what’s in store.

Halo’s Mission

When it comes to your baby’s sleep, Halo’s goal is to make things as simple and comfortable as possible without sacrificing safety. HALO’s co-founders, Bill and Amy Schmid, lost their infant daughter to SIDS. Suddenly infant death syndrome (SIDS) is defined as the unexpected passing of a previously healthy infant younger than one year of age.

According to Halo’s website, Bill’s grief prompted him to investigate current medical literature and health guidelines for baby safe sleep environments. He hoped that by doing this, other families could avoid disaster.

In addition, Bill initiated the HALO Safer Way to Sleep Hospital Modeling Program, which offers free HALO SleepSack wearable blankets, training, and instructional tools to hospitals that wish to educate parents about safe sleep. One of those hospitals is where we are.

We were so grateful when Halo sent us a HALO BassiNest Swivel Sleeper when we were expecting our third child, Miles. That’s why I couldn’t wait to give it a try. Avail(able) now this minute!

It is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) that infants sleep in their parents’ room for the first six months to one year. The kids usually start out sleeping with us until they stop waking up in the middle of the night. This is why it’s so great to have access to HALO BassiNest.

HALO BassiNest Product Information

The only bassinet on the market that rotates a complete 360 degrees is the HALO BassiNest Swivel Sleeper. This makes it simple to cuddle your baby to sleep (while giving them their own safe place!) and to gently slide the bassinet out of the way when you need to get out of bed.

The mesh not only provides ventilation and safety for your infant, but also allows you to keep an eye on them from the comfort of your own bed.

One side of the crib folds down so you can pick up your infant without getting out of bed. Locking this wall is an option if you prefer privacy (maybe from curious younger siblings).

It also offers a handy pocket for storing baby necessities like diapers, wipes, and pacifiers. The mattress has simple-to-use, machine-washable sheets and is waterproof for those inevitable blowouts and spit ups.

Adjust the height to suit your needs and the height of your bed. It helps tremendously with recuperation and getting through the difficult evenings.

The wide, four-legged foundation of this bassinet ensures that it will stand firm. The new and enhanced base design has 32-inch-long legs that are low enough to fit under most beds.

There’s no way you could get it under our bed. There is no room under the mattress because our bed has an integrated drawer. Still, I didn’t seem to care, and I was able to keep Miles close in his bassinet.

Babies up to 5 months old or 20 pounds in weight are ideal candidates for the HALO BassiNest. Using a bassinet is no longer necessary after your baby can roll over or pull themselves up.

The new Luxe line bassinets allow you to remove the top and move it anywhere in your home without the base.

Where can I buy the HALO BassiNest?

The HALO BassiNest is available from many different stores. I would recommend looking for HALO products on Amazon first, since they appear to have the most range. The collection at Target is likewise rather nice.

You need also get a fitted sheet, which is readily available there as well. You can pick from many different hues and designs.

Do you need the newborn insert?

Although HALO offers a newborn insert, the BassiNest can be used with a newborn baby without the need for an additional product. Inserts designed for HALO bassinets are the only ones to use in a BassiNest. Up until the baby reaches 15 pounds or when they begin to roll over, it is safe to use.

The insert makes the baby’s sleeping area narrower, making them feel safer. The flat sleeping surface is actually the bassinet mattress, giving it a somewhat hammock-like appearance.

Is the HALO BassiNest not level?

The HALO website mentions a small tilt when the bassinet is swiveled, which I didn’t detect but which is apparently within acceptable safety standards. The fact that the front sidewall is lower than the back sidewall might also provide the illusion of greater slant.

Is the HALO BassiNest worth it?

Does the HALO BassiNest provide value for the money? From what I can tell, sure. If you can afford it and have the room for it, it’s well worth it. The 360-degree swivel and lowering wall were fantastic to have, particularly in those first few weeks, and I felt at ease knowing my baby was sleeping soundly in it.

I think it’s completely worth it if you plan on having more than one baby and your baby will be sleeping in your room for a while over their crib.

This HALO BassiNest Swivel Sleeper review should help you decide if this bassinet is perfect for your baby.

What to Look for in a Baby Bassinet

Size

Even if many bassinets are considerably smaller than a regular crib, you should still take that size into account. Think carefully about where you want to put the bassinet, whether you’re buying it before or after the baby arrives. Make sure the bassinet will fit in the room before you buy it by measuring the available area.

The Graco Pack’ n Play On the Go Playard is one example of a folding, portable bassinet (view on Amazon). The Pack ‘n Play or another bassinet can be set up where it is needed for naps and overnight, and then stored out of the way when not in use. As a whole, you don’t want the bassinet to be too close to the bed in case any bedding were to shift during the night.

Added Features

Today’s sophisticated bassinets are more than simply a place for babies to sleep; they also have a variety of useful extras. This stroller has extras including a canopy, play yard, stroller attachments, and speakers. You should think about whether you can do without these extra features or if you will find them very vital, as they will come in useful whether you are traveling or trying to get baby to sleep at home.

The UPPAbaby Stroller Bassinet (see on Amazon) is a good example; it can be clipped into a stroller, used with a bassinet stand, and features a sunshade and a bug cover. This bassinet has a mosquito shield and sunshade to keep baby comfortable and safe on hot days, making it an excellent choice for families that enjoy spending time outdoors. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises against bedsharing for newborns of all ages, although some bassinets can simulate co-sleeping without the risk. 2

To facilitate diaper changes, feedings, and even playtime, some bassinets have a removable panel that can be unzipped from one side. When baby is sleeping, make sure the sides are raised. To assist soothe a baby to sleep, manufacturers have created bassinets that rock or vibrate.

You should prioritize the safety of your baby’s sleep, but you should also think about your lifestyle and whether the bassinet will serve other uses outside the home. Think about bassinets that fold up effortlessly for transport if you frequently take trips with your family.
